How to Add Streaming Apps to Steam Deck

***This method no longer works**

You are no longer able to add multiple instances of Google Chrome into your Steam library in Desktop mode. I also tried use Firefox, but the browser wouldn’t switch to full-screen in game mode. Long story short, I knew that EmuDeck had the ability to add Cloud Services and I finally tested it out and found out how quick and easy the process is. Here is the new video on how to add Streaming Apps.

Feel free to follow the instructions here if you still want to try the old way.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Here are the instructions covered in the video:

  1. Switch to Desktop Mode

    • Suggestion: Connect a Mouse and Keyboard to make this process much easier and faster.

  2. Download Google Chrome

    • You can download this from the Discovery Store.

  3. Input the Line of Code into Konsole

    • An article I found on www.gamingonlinux.com and it says that you need to input this line of code in Konsole

      1. Copy and past this: flatpak --user override --filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.google.Chrome

    • Here is the link to the article: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/03/chrome-on-steam-deck-now-supports-the-deck-controller-with-geforce-now-working/#:~:text=To%20get%20the%20Chrome%20package%20to%20work%20with,Chrome%20of%20course%29%3A%20flatpak%20--user%20override%20--filesystem%3D%2Frun%2Fudev%3Aro%20com.google.Chrome

  4. Add Google Chrome to Steam

    • Find the Google Chrome application from the Steam Deck home button -> right-click on Google Chrome -> select “Add to Steam”

      • Game -> Add non-game to steam deck -> select Google Chrome

        1. You're going to do this for each streaming app you want to add to Steam

  5. Append the Launch Options to your Streaming Service

    • In that same Article in Step 3, they give you another line to copy and paste.

      • Copy this line: --window-size=1024,640 --force-device-scale-factor=1.25 --device-scale-factor=1.25 --kiosk "https://www.whateverserviceyouuse.com"

      • Go back to Steam -> right-click on Google Chrom from the app list -> select properties -> scroll past the “@@” symbols, click and hit spacebar, and then right-click and paste the link.

        • MAKE SURE THERE IS SPACE between the @@ and what you just pasted otherwise you’ll get an error!

    • You need to replace: "https://www.whateverserviceyouuse.com" with the exact website address of the Streaming App.

      1. Note that this will look different across each Streaming Service and it's best to just copy and paste.

Streaming Services:

  1. Amazon Prime Video

    1. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/storefront?filterId=OFFER_FILTER=PRIME

  2. Apple TV +

    1. https://tv.apple.com/

  3. Crunchyroll

    1. https://beta.crunchyroll.com/

  4. Disney +

    1. https://www.disneyplus.com/

  5. Netflix

    1. https://www.netflix.com/

  6. Spotify

    1. https://open.spotify.com/

  7. Twitch

    1. https://www.twitch.tv/

  8. YouTube

    1. https://www.youtube.com/

  • Make sure you don’t delete the quotation marks, you need to paste the web address between the “ “

  • Double Check that It Works before you start adding all of the artwork to Steam, make sure that the app works!

    6. Add the Title + Artwork

    • Rename the app to whatever streaming service it is

    • Add the Artwork to Stream

      1. I've created a little folder of all the artwork you'll need for MOST of the Streaming Apps we all use.

        1. DOWNLOAD ARTWORK HERE

REMEMBER, ONCE YOU RENAME THE APP, YOU CAN THEN RE-ADD GOOGLE CHROME TO STEAM TO START THE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN FOR THE NEXT STREAMING SERVICE!

    7. Configure the Controls in Game Mode

    • Go back to Game Mode

    • Click on the streaming app, click the controller icon and select "Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad"

      1. Then click edit layout -> triggers -> right trigger -> mouse ->select “left click”

    • Once that's finished you should be able to easily navigate the app with the right mouse pad and right trigger as your mouse click.

      1. This is the configuration that works easiest for me. I'm sure that there will be other easier configurations in the future.
