Week 1 - Visual Literacy

Theme: Visual Literacy

Objective: Photograph an apple-like it's a serial killer.

Description: Participants must put their creativity to the test using lighting, color, and camera angles to portray a sweet, delicious apple as a ruthless serial character.

Rules:

  • Your apple cannot have any type of human characteristics or props.

  • You may not do any type of composite editing (adding/removing/duplicating).

  • Any/all photo editing software is permitted for post-processing.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: AUGUST 5TH AT 11:59PM HST

VOTING: AUGUST 6TH AT 9 AM PST/12PM EST.

Guest Judge: Nicole York

Nicole York is a Narrative Photographer and author who specializes in telling stories. She believes stories are the threads that weave the fabric of life, and her goal is to create a richer world by telling those stories and educating and encouraging others to tell stories of their own.

Nicole is a Community Lead for PRO EDU, creating educational content to help photographers grow in their craft. She is also an educator and former Senior Writer for
Fstoppers.com. She runs a weekly interview show focusing on Creatives called The Social Hour, and a daily morning show on Clubhouse called Morning Walk and Photo Talk.

Her photography has been featured in magazines like PUMP and Ellements, and she has been interviewed by outlets like The Fashion Photography Podcast and Idea Accelerator, as well as featured in the annual Tether Tools “How I Got the Shot” guide.
